Downhill/Freeride in New Zealand

My family is traveling to New Zealand over the Christmas holidays. My
sons 15 and 19 are serious downhillers (Younger one was Colorado Junior
regional champ last year). We are trying to find any downhill or
freeride sites in New Zealand, preferably on the South Island. Even
BMX might do.

If your around Christchurch (middle of south island) there's great
riding around the port hiils, also get to the Mt Hutt access rd - it's
actually a snow feild but its a 14km access dirt road - hey you could
even bike up to the summit for some untrakked terrain - the bike ride
from the tarseal would be a good workout too!!!
